Video Showcase

To show that the project is indeed working, here are some videos of the project running on the Nexys 4 DDR board. The videos are recorded using a phone camera vertically, so the quality is not the best. Also, I sadly don’t fall into the age-range of those who got to enjoy the original DOOM in their childhood, so my skills are not exactly the best.

Videos are provided for different settings, providing different degrees of performance. Generally, the game allows for two main approaches to reducing rendering load: reducing the internal graphics setting to low, and increasing the frame around the viewport, thus reducing the size of the viewport. The videos are provided for both approaches, and for both high and low graphics settings. The clear performance difference here indicate, that the main bottleneck is the, already unrolled, rendering loop. Implying that further optimizations would have to rely on increased clock speeds, moving towards faster instruction processing overall, or custom hardware for the rendering loop.
